From Governing to Campaigning
I believe this legislative session was productive and significant, especially as we were able to pass a comprehensive transportation funding bill for the first time in a generation. This is the letter that will be mailed to my constituents this week, reporting on the 2013 session of the Virginia General Assembly that ended recently.
I enjoyed the opportunity to represent you in Richmond this year, but I am also glad that the session is finally over, and I am happy to be back at my other professional job.
Now that my fulltime lawmaking duties are done for this year, I will be turning my attention to the reelection campaign. I have always said that there is a time for governing and a time for campaigning, and I don't like to mix those two sets of activities together.
As you may know, all 100 seats in the House of Delegates are up for election this November, along with the offices of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the Attorney General. I recently filed my paperwork to seek another term in the House, and my name will appear on the ballot as the Democratic candidate for the 35th House seat.
While I am not yet certain who will be the Republican nominee, I understand that a candidate is in the process of filing her paperwork. Accordingly, the next email you receive from me will be about my political campaign.
However, please know that my District office will continue to serve you in any way that we can throughout the rest of the year. My fulltime assistant and I are ready to assist you with any constituent matter or case work you may have, or to answer any questions about the legislative session or the state government.
Additionally, over the next few months, I plan on holding town halls and other public forums to discuss policy issues of importance to our community with special guests and others with expertise on the issues. I would love to have you participate and share your thoughts with me.
